Peter Macrow - About the poet

Peter Macrow lives in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.

 

His published work includes haiku and longer poems, book reviews, fiction, and a short play-with-verse for children. In the 3 years or so since December 2000, when his first published poem appeared in the Australian literary biannual, Famous Reporter, he has had over 250 poems published. Apart from Australia, his work has been read in New Zealand, Japan, the U.S., Canada, England, Scotland, also translated in Belgium and Bulgaria.

 

He holds a First Class Honours Degree in German and was an Academic Exchange Student to Germany for 2 years where he studied German and Musicology. His thesis for his Graduate Diploma in Librarianship was on the notion of moral responsibility in contemporary Australian children's literature. He also studied Japanese for 8 years and was recently awarded a Graduate Diploma in Languages in Japanese.

 

He has lectured in German literature at University and tutored French and German literature there. For 14 years he was a Sound Librarian for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

 

Peter edited 2 issues of the chapbook poetry series, "rePUBlic readings", and in June 2005 brought out the first issue of his new poetry magazine, "Blue Giraffe", which he edits and publishes through his Blue Giraffe Press.

 

His first haiku collection, "oil slick sun", will be released by Pardalote Press in September 2005 as part of National Poetry week.

 

Attalanta Press plans an illustrated book of his poems for children for 2006.
