The Amber Screen of the Sky

The amber screen of the sky contains the focus of deep, evening light.

Rich colours wash the realm of sight, conserving

Sun-feathered alchemy, stars sealed above the moon,

Sheer striations of diffused wavelength, sere escarpments,

And I fully breathe ocean, hot tropic temples

In drenched rhythm, blades of light, confluence of viridian,

The sea with iridescent, blue bubbles, like flawed glass.

The amber sky folds over, salvaging the last of the day,

Softens the horizon, and capitulates to the night,

The sable wind of earth's mind, comfortless river

Of the arm of suns, glittering language of the sky.

Each star is a syllable of a song over the sea, the Pacific

Shattered contentment of a scattered island wash, tense

Between times of prophetic sailing from paradise to paradise,

Through the reefs of fringed denial, through broken currents,

Trades flashing clear around white sails, and forcing waves,

Visual and responding, celestial surf pounding refuge shores.
