Mairi Tognin - Biography

After being involved in Traditional Folk Music, I made a few recordings, appeared on T.V. and performed at the Edinburgh Festival, I was bit by the travel bug. In the course of living and working in Italy and Switzerland, I found that I had an aptitude for languages and became fluent in Italian, French and Spanish, which I now use mainly in my work. I gained a BA in Italian and Italian Literature plus a BA in Business Administration when I returned to Scotland. I have finally turned full circle.

Poetry was never a part of my life until I was catapulted into the realms of Mental Illness. My son who had been in Somalia, had returned to Scotland and rapidly declined into Schizophrenia. I also began to suffer physically, having the habit to internalise everything and anything, I found myself unable to eat due to severe gastric problems. In the middle of all this mayhem, I sat down and started writing and have not stopped since. My poetry has been published in several anthologies and e-zines. Although I enjoy having my poetry read and appreciated, I am equally happy with obscurity.
