I started writing poems in English when I was working in my wife's bookshop in Venice, I had been working there since 1981, unfortunately the shop does not exist any more.

At the beginning of the 90's my appreciation for poetry grew and I became more active. In or around 1993 I stopped writing and reading in Italian, except for daily newspapers.

On that year I completed my first poem in English, it was based around a students' strike in the school where I still teach. Most of my poems are about moments of "particular" gladness or intense perception in relation with what's around me.

What attracts me is the nature around Venice, the lagoon and the sea and the countryside from Venice to the town San Dona where I teach.

Other subjects of my poems are about recurring memories (Endurance) of travels I made, in particular to Ireland where I have holidayed for ten years every summer, Easter etc.

But the "setting" which has seemed so far more effective for poetry is a stretch of beach at the Lido, that "tongue" of land between the Venetian lagoon and the sea, a stretch interrupted by the "Murazzi", massive stones on the sand brought there in the 17th century as a barrier against the tides.
