The ninth edition of this guide has been completely revised and gives details of more than 70 British magazines that welcome 'targeted' articles and short stories. The entries vary from "Active Life", "Choice" and "Saga" that are aimed at the over fifties to "Brownie" and "Girl Talk" for young girls and all the well-known women's magazines. There are specialist papers of all kinds: "Essentially America", "The Railway Magazine"and "This England", etc, not forgetting "The New Writer", "Writers' Forum" and "Writers' News " and a selection of small press publications (including "Acorn") and samples from Eire and USA.

The handbook is invaluable for writers seeking paying markets, as well as being an excellent example of how market research should be done. There is one magazine to a page itemising editors' names, address, email and website, frequency, circulation, what is published, length and payment, target readership, number of pages, style, content including advertisements, fillers/letters, what the editor is looking for, how submissions should be sent, whether guidelines are available and a breakdown of one issue. The index has been enlarged in this issue and is much improved and there is a very useful glossary of terms commonly used in publishing that may be less familiar to writers. An added gem is a FREE email update service. This is certainly value for money.
